At the Skills Hub, we are currently fundraising for new fitness equipment.

Our new school building has a room we would like to repurpose as a fitness studio so that our young people can access more health-related activities. This will benefit their social, mental and physical health, and the equipment will also enable us to deliver qualifications such as fitness instructor courses and AQA unit awards to support students’ employability.

We are seeking funding to purchase a range of equipment such as treadmills, exercise bikes and free weights. The fitness equipment will be used as part of students’ PE lessons and will also be available to use in new fitness sessions which we will run before and after school. All pupils in the school will have access to the new equipment in some way.

The benefits to our young people of increased health-related activity include:

  • Improved memory and brain function
  • Protection against many chronic diseases
  • Aid in weight management
  • Lower blood pressure and improved heart health (which helps students to understand physical literacy)
  • Improved quality of sleep
  • Reduced feelings of anxiety and depression
  • Help to combat fatigue and burn energy in a healthy and structured way

The new qualifications we will be able to deliver with this equipment will help to raise students’ employment aspirations, giving them the skills and confidence to pursue fitness as a career.

We welcome donations from individuals, companies and charitable trusts towards this new equipment. Please contact Jessica Zubaidi at jzubaidi@ohcat.org if you would like to support this vital project.
