Puppy therapy at The Skills Hub

Paws In Work have paid The Skills Hub a visit this week for a puppy therapy session, and they brought in a litter of adorable 8-week-old cava-poos, a mix between Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle.

Both the students and the staff were excited to meet the puppies and found comfort and a sense of calm interacting with them. There are many benefits to these puppy sessions, including an improved mood and a lowering of the stress hormone, cortisol, for students and staff alike. The session also encourages empathy and a desire to nurture the tiny pups.

For the puppies, it is a great way to begin to socialise with humans and so has developmental benefits for them too – so it’s a win-win! They were playful and socialised with the students and each other during the first two sessions. By the third session they were exhausted and had to have a nap to recharge for the afternoon sessions!

We are delighted to have been the first school that the company has worked with, and we hope that this will open doors for many other opportunities.
